2017 Honda Civic Sedan

Drivers nowadays have a lot of things they are looking for when shopping for a new car. These can be anything from safety, to style, to gas mileage, and, more recently, technology features. It’s 2017, so the technology equipped in today’s models is as advanced as ever. Here is some of our Honda dealers’ favorite technology in models on out lot.

HondaLink®

Specifically designed for Honda models, the HondaLink® technology is a do-it-all system for your vehicle. It connects to smartphones for voice-controlled text messaging and phone calls, as well as a wide range of apps you can download for navigation, music, and other content. There is also maintenance reminders that pop up when your Honda car needs an oil change or needs the tires rotated. There are many vehicles equipped with this impressive technology, like the 2017 Honda CR-V as well as the 2017 Honda Fit.

Honda Sensing ™

Driver-assist technologies have become popular tech features in vehicles since debuting just a few years ago. The Honda brand created its own set of technologies that work with Honda models as an extra pair of eyes on the road, so drivers feel safe no matter what. Some of these technologies include Lane Departure Warning and Road Departure Mitigation which senses when the car is veering out of a lane or road. The driver is alerted with sounds, flashes, and even steering wheel vibrations to get them back on track.

There is also Forward Collision Warning and Collision Mitigation Braking System which detects potential threats in front of the vehicle by wave radar sensors. In some cases, the system can even apply the brakes on its own.

To really see how these amazing features work in person, you have to stop by Gates Honda. Our dealers can show you how the different technology works.

Drivetrains Explained at Gates Honda

2017 Honda Accord Hybrid

Not all drivers are gear heads who know the latest news in the automotive industry or can dissect and explain every car part. Our Honda dealers in Richmond, KY know that, which is why we are here to help our customers. We frequently get asked questions about anything and everything from oil changes, to fuel efficiency, to engine options, and more particularly, drivetrains.

There are four different drivetrain options: front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive, and four-wheel drive. A majority of Honda cars have a front-wheel drive system, like the 2017 Honda Civic. In a FWD system, power is sent to the two front wheels, which allows for decent traction and better fuel efficiency.

In the same sense, rear-wheel drive is when power is sent to the two rear wheels of a car, which is common in many performance cars, as well as in some SUVs and trucks.

All-wheel drive is another common drivetrain available in many Honda models, like the Honda CR-V. This drivetrain can split the power between all four wheels, rather than just two, and all wheels are constantly engaged all of the time, with wheel sets adaptive to weather or road conditions.

Four-wheel drive is a popular drivetrain for off-road enthusiasts, as it engages all of the power to four wheels when manually turned on, perfect for more rugged terrain that isn’t smooth gravel.

To really understand the difference in drivetrains, you have to drive these models for yourself to see which best fits your daily driving conditions. Here at Gates Honda, we will be happy to answer any questions you may have so you can purchase the car that’s fully equipped to handle your needs.

The History of the Honda CR-V

By dmyers | Posted in Uncategorized on Thursday, April 6th, 2017 at 2:18 PM
2017 Honda CR-V

There’s a reason why the Honda CR-V is in its fifth generation: this classic Honda model was one of the first crossovers on the market, and still stands as one of the most popular crossovers to date. The 2017 Honda CR-V has some new features while still retaining elements that drivers have come to know and love.

The Honda brand first debuted the Honda CR-V (Comfortable Roundabout Vehicle) back in 1996 at the Chicago Auto Show. This first model was geared towards drivers who wanted a more compact version of an SUV with sedan-like handling. Drivers got that in the very first model which was four-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.

The second generation boasted more power, and its new engine was capable of producing 160 horsepower and 162 lb.-ft. of torque. The model was so popular that in 2002 and 2003, the Honda CR-V won Car and Driver Magazine’s “Best Small SUV.”

Third generation revamped the crossover once again, replacing the car’s side-opening rear door with a more conventional rear liftgate. The exterior features were smoothed out with a new front bumper, a newly-designed grille, and the mounted spare tire was removed from the back.

In 2011, the automaker debuted the sportier fourth generation of the CR-V, which was equipped with a continuously variable transmission that greatly improved the fuel economy, while its new suspension shock absorbers improved its performance on the road.

Flash forward to today, and the 2017 Honda CR-V is just as great as its predecessors, but with more features that reflect the state-of-the-art technology of today. This model comes with lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation braking. Not to mention the entertainment features like Android® Auto and Apple CarPlay®.

Here at Gates Honda, we love the Honda CR-V, and would love to show drivers what’s new in the 2017 model. Stop by our dealership for a test drive to see for yourself.

Get Your Car Ready for Spring at Gates Honda

By dmyers | Posted in Uncategorized on Tuesday, March 21st, 2017 at 1:47 PM

Warmer weather is right around the corner, which means your car needs a fresh start after driving in the cold winter months. This spring, Gates Honda in Richmond, KY, can help transition your car through the change of seasons.

Oil Change

If your oil hasn’t been changed in 3,000 to 5,000 miles, it’s time to bring your car in for an oil change at our Honda service center. Regular oil changes are essential to keep your engine in top shape. Here at Gates Honda, we are currently offering an exclusive oil change special from now through March 31st, so come get your oil changed just in time for spring.

Check and Replace Your Cabin’s Air Filter

Making the switch from heat to A/C is the perfect time to check the quality of your cabin air filter. Heading into allergy season, it’s important to make sure your filter has a clean slate. Lexington-area drivers especially may want to check their air filter’s quality, because driving in a high traffic or urban area usually results in poor air quality through your filter. Have us switch out your old, dirty air filter for a new one.

Clean Out Interior and Exterior

Sleet, snow, and salt can wreak havoc on both the outside and inside of your Honda vehicle through the winter months. Now that the snow has melted, it’s finally time to wash and wax your car to make it look like brand new again. Make sure a high quality car wax is used to extend the life of your vehicle’s paint finish. The inside of your Honda vehicle probably needs some cleaning too, so don’t forget to ask us to vacuum and clean the floors from any winter weather buildup.

Give your car a much needed makeover for spring and schedule a service appointment at your Richmond Honda dealership today.

2018 Honda Odyssey Model Revealed at Winter Auto Shows

By dmyers | Posted in Uncategorized on Tuesday, March 14th, 2017 at 3:32 PM
2018 Honda Odyssey

The latest model of the popular cult favorite, the Honda Odyssey, debuted at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit back in January. While the exterior is definitely recognizable as the classic Honda Odyssey that Richmond-area buyers have come to know and love, the 2017 model has special features that set it apart from previous Honda car models.

While still a minivan, the updated version of the Honda Odyssey is much more sleek and detailed in its exterior design. New LED headlights and taillights were added, in addition to an eye-catching grille, which resembles that of the Honda Pilot.

Inside the cabin, the automaker has added what it’s calling Magic Slide seats, which are located in the middle row and slide forwards, backwards, and sideways, allowing for easier access to the back row of seats.

A big upgrade is the technology: the 2017 Honda Odyssey comes with built-in Wi-Fi and 4G LTE service, touchscreen controls and a brand new CabinTalk system. The CabinTalk system allows the driver to keep tabs on the backseat passengers with rear cameras, as well as a microphone for the driver to talk with passengers via the rear-seat speakers or through individual headphones plugged into the backseat entertainment system.

An in-car app titled “How Much Farther” has also been added to allow passengers to see the estimated time of arrival to their destination.

Important safety features to note include forward collision warning, lane keeping assistance, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency breaking and a blind-spot monitor.

The release date for the 2018 Honda Odyssey is set for this spring, so head to your Gates Honda dealership once it debuts to check it out!

2016 Honda Odyssey

Here at Gates Honda, we are happy to serve the Richmond, KY area for all of their Honda-related needs. Our friendly sales and service associates would love to help you learn more about the Honda vehicles we carry in our new and used inventory. But today we’d like to cover something a little more specific that we hear about a lot: what Honda cars are family friendly?

Our favorite family-friendly Honda car is the 2016 Honda Odyssey, which we carry several trims of at any given time. This minivan is perfect for larger families, or families that like to go on road trips or have full schedules of different activities all over town. The 2016 Honda Odyssey can comfortably seat up to six people and the second row comes with an easy to move center seat to allow passengers to get into the third row (available on the EX trim and above). Perhaps one of the best features is the HondaVAC, which is a built-in vacuum that helps you keep the interior clean.

The 2016 Honda Odyssey also comes with a power liftgate to help you open the trunk when your hands are full. It also comes with a smart key so you can open the doors without digging the key out of your pocket. Heated side mirrors make snowy or icy conditions safer by quickly defrosting the mirrors so you can get where you need to be no matter the weather outside.

The 2016 Honda Odyssey is a very safe vehicle. It includes safety features like LaneWatch, which helps you see cars as you merge lanes, a blind spot information system so you’re never caught off guard, and multiple airbags that will keep you and your passengers in case of a collision.

If you and your family are interested in the 2016 Honda Odyssey, we are happy to answer any questions and take you on a test drive. We welcome you to our Richmond, KY location where we hope to see you soon!

Should I Buy or Lease a New Car from Gates Honda?

By dmyers | Posted in Uncategorized on Friday, January 27th, 2017 at 6:59 PM
Buy or Lease a Car

Here at Gates Honda we enjoy serving the Richmond, KY area and helping our customers find a new or used Honda car that’s right for them. Deciding whether to buy or lease a new car can be a difficult decision. We want to help guide you through both processes so you can make the decision that’s best for you.

When You Should Lease

Leasing carries some unique advantages over buying a car outright, but it’s not a perfect solution for everyone. Lease contracts often limit the amount of miles you can drive in a year before accruing overage fees. On the other hand, when the lease expires (typically after three years) you are free to sign a lease for a new car. Lease payments also tend to be less than financing payments because you pay for the car’s depreciation instead of for the car itself. In general, leases can be beneficial if you like to have the newest car on the market, won’t be adding a lot of miles, and need a smaller monthly payment.

When You Should Buy

Buying a car is similar to leasing but with a few key differences. Your monthly payments will be a little more, and you may be asked to make a higher down payment. But unlike a lease, you won’t have any mileage restrictions or other maintenance fees for the life of your car. Buying a car would make more sense if you need the stability of a single car for a long duration or if you have a long commute. Lastly, buying a car can be a good long term investment because you own it once the loan is paid off, instead of paying for a lease for the entire time you use the car.

Conclusion

No matter what you decide to do, we at Gates Honda would be happy to help you find a Honda you want to lease or purchase. Whether you are looking for new Honda cars like the 2017 Honda Accord or are interested in used Honda cars, we encourage you to look through our vehicle inventory. If you’re around in the Richmond, KY area we hope to see you at our Honda dealership soon!

Honda to Feature 2017 Honda CR-V in Super Bowl Ad

2017 Honda CR-V

As we enter a new year, we have a few thrilling entertainment events on the horizon, but no single event holds more people’s attention than the Super Bowl. For some, the best part of the Super Bowl is getting to eat tons of bean dip and watch some world class football, but for others the most exciting part is the commercials that air between touchdowns. Companies who choose to advertise during the Super Bowl spend millions of dollars on their ads and many millions more to air them during the game, so it’s no wonder that many of these commercials become pop cultural moments that last for years. Gates Honda is looking forward to one ad in particular: the 2017 Honda CR-V.

This year, the Honda CR-V will be the advertising contribution that Honda brings to the Super Bowl, and with good reason. The 2017 Honda CR-V is already earning rave reviews from early drivers and automotive publications alike for its refreshed styling, superior comfort, and all-around versatility.

Honda Vice-President of Auto Marketing Susie Rossick was enthusiastic about the decision to feature the 2017 Honda CR-V, saying “The Super Bowl is the appropriate stage to introduce America to the bold and sophisticated new Honda CR-V. With the largest audience and reach of any single television event, the Super Bowl is a platform befitting the CR-V’s status as the best-selling SUV in America*, and the perfect place to celebrate CR-V’s 20th anniversary.”

The Super Bowl is set to kick off on February 5th, 2017, so look for the commercial to air sometime during the game. While we don’t currently have any 2017 Honda CR-V models in stock at Gates Honda, we do expect to see it arrive at our Richmond, KY Honda dealership sometime this spring. If you can’t wait that long—and we don’t blame you—you can visit us to test drive one of the 2016 Honda CR-V models on our lot.
