Get to Know the Honda Odyssey

The second row uses Honda’s Magic Slide technology, allowing you to move the seats side-to-side as well as back and forth to customize your seating layout. What’s New in the 2023 Model?

The 2023 Odyssey is built on the fifth-generation version of the minivan that was introduced in 2018 and received a comprehensive facelift in 2021 that introduced a range of aesthetic interior and exterior changes, as well as a suite of modern technology features. In the 2023 model, a brand-new Sports trim was added to the Odyssey’s lineup, which includes unique black body accents, 19-inch black aluminum alloy wheels, and leather seats with red stitching.

A worn or damaged transmission makes driving difficult and unsafe, if not impossible. The transmission is very complex and contains hundreds of different components. The failure of just one component can easily affect the entire transmission. If you have a transmission problem, your Honda dealer can fix it. These are some of the signs that you need to visit us ASAP for a transmission repair.

Check Engine Light Is On

The engine and the transmission work together to move your Honda. The engine supplies the raw power, and the transmission focuses the power so your car’s wheels can move. Your car has dozens of sensors, and each sensor connects to an important component. These sensors supply your car’s computer with the component’s state of health and its activity.

The transmission doesn’t have a warning light. This is because a problem with the transmission automatically affects the engine and vice versa. If one or more components in the transmission are failing, sensors will inform our computer, and the engine light will activate. Our technicians will connect your car’s computer to our diagnostic system to pinpoint the transmission problem so we can repair it.

Delayed Shifting

Your Honda transmission is designed to effortlessly shift gears in response to the transmission computer’s instructions. The shift is smooth and almost unnoticeable. One of the signs of a damaged transmission is hesitation in changing gears. This problem isn’t immediately noticeable, but as time passes, it will become very obvious and can be accompanied by strange noises.

A low level of transmission fluid can cause a delay in gear shifting. One of the main functions of this fluid is to provide the hydraulic power that enables the gears to shift. If the fluid is low, gear changing will become more and more difficult. A lack of fluid also means there is a leak in the system. Our technicians will investigate and find the cause of the problem. If there’s a leak, we’ll permanently seal it and refill the transmission fluid.

Transmission Can’t Shift

One of the most unnerving transmission problems is if the transmission refuses to shift. An unresponsive transmission means your car won’t be able to move. The engine will continue to supply energy, but the transmission won’t be able to apply it. This problem can also be caused by a transmission leak, as a lack of fluid will prevent the gears from moving.

An unresponsive transmission can also be caused by a fault in the transmission computer, a damaged solenoid, a failed sensor, or physical damage to the transmission itself. Our expert technicians will find and repair the cause of this problem.

Transmission problems only get worse if they’re not fixed. Call us today at Gates Honda.

Buying a used car comes with all the excitement of a good bargain hunt, mixed with the fear of landing yourself with a lemon. There’s always an element of risk when you buy a pre-loved vehicle, but if you decide to buy a used Honda, you’re choosing a brand with an excellent track record and reputation as a good secondhand investment. Read on to find out why.

1. Consistent Reliability

One reason why Honda continues to top the resale chart is the reliability of their cars. A well-loved Honda can last for between 200,000 and 300,000 miles, or between 15 to 20 years: twice as long as the average lifespan of competing brands. With this longevity, even an older Honda is likely to have a lot of miles left in it.

2. Straightforward Repairs

Honda parts are hard-wearing, but they’re also straightforward to source if they need replacing. The popularity of the brand means that parts are easy to find and that mechanics have more experience in fixing them. This means that repairs are quicker, more straightforward, and more affordable.

3. Resilient Resale Value

Their longevity and reliability mean that Honda cars are better at holding onto their resale value than their competitors. A Honda with high mileage may still have years left in it, and buyers will pay more for a car that seems like a good investment. Besides, they know that they’re likely to get a good price if they decide to sell later on.

All cars depreciate in value with time, but with a secondhand Honda, you know that this is happening at a slower rate.

4. Enhanced RPM

Some of Honda’s enduring popularity comes from the fact that it’s just a great car. As one of the pioneers of VTEC technology, Honda has used variable valve timing and lift electronic control in many of its vehicles. This increases the RPM, which means a more powerful response and greater acceleration.

Even though turbo engines have superseded the VTEC in today’s car market, the longevity of Honda cars means that it’s still possible to experience the benefits of this technology in a used car.

5. Environmentally Responsible

Their sheer endurance means that Honda cars are less disposable than many other brands and therefore better for the planet. But VTEC technology also means that they’re more fuel efficient too, as the RPM can be adjusted to burn gas more economically. Many Honda vehicles can achieve over 30mpg on the highway, and more than 25mpg when they’re off it. So not only are you looking after the planet with a Honda, but you’re also saving money.

If buying a used car is a gamble, then choosing a secondhand Honda is a fairly safe bet. And when you shop with us, you’re ensuring that you get great quality and value for money. So visit us at Gates Honda, and let us help you find the best vehicle for your needs.

When you notice a potential problem with your vehicle’s brakes, it’s crucial to visit a Honda dealer immediately to avoid a potential collision and further damage to your car. There are vital signs that indicate a need to schedule a brake repair, which is essential in keeping you and your family safe on the road, whether you’re commuting to work, school, or planning a long-distance drive.

1. Screeching or Grinding Sounds While Braking or Driving

If you notice unusual noises that sound like grinding or screeching, it’s best to have this reviewed by a certified Honda technician. Screeching noises or high-pitched sounds may be a sign that your brake pads are in need of replacement. These noises are often due to worn brake pads that create these sounds when they contact the rotor.

When you hear a grinding noise, this can signify several other issues, including worn brake pads or a rock or small object stuck inside the caliper unit, which hinders your brakes’ performance. If you notice any noises when you use your brakes, it’s crucial to take your vehicle to a local Honda service center as soon as possible.

2. Vibrations When Driving

When there are vibrations while you drive or using your steering wheel, this is a sign of an uneven rotor, which means you’ll need your brake system checked by your local technician. Your Honda professional can review the brake rotor, which is a disc located inside your vehicle’s wheels, which works to slow the wheels as you press on the brake pedal, which compresses both sides of the rotor, and should function smoothly and evenly.

3. Brake Light

If you notice that the brake light is on, it’s time to schedule an inspection with your Honda service center. You may notice the brake light is red, yellow, or orange, which indicates your brakes require service, even if there are no further signs that indicate a problem. When the indicator light is on, it’s best to have your brakes assessed and repaired before further damage or issues arise.

4. Fluid Leak

Fluid leaks often indicate that your brakes need repair, and there isn’t enough power for the brake pads to work correctly, which can impact the motor. If you encounter any leak, it’s essential to visit your local Honda service center to determine if there further issues with your vehicle.

Your local certified Honda technician can provide the services you need to keep your brakes performing correctly, so you can drive safely with your family. Come see us at Gates Honda and find out what we have to offer you from our fantastic showroom today.

The alternator is part of your electrical charging system. Its role is to generate electricity for all of your car’s electrical systems. Like any other mechanical component, the alternator can eventually wear or get damaged. If this happens, you’ll need an alternator repair at your Honda dealer. These are a few of the signs that you may need a repair.

Battery Light Comes On

The battery light is a warning of a problem in the electrical charging system. The alternator, the battery, and other components have sensors attached to them. These sensors monitor their attached component for signs of wear or damage. If a sensor detects a problem, it will inform your computer, and the warning light will come on.

A worn alternator can trigger the light when its electricity production drops below the minimum level. An alternator, on average, produces 14.5 volts. If it’s under a full load, this can drop to 13 volts. If your alternator is worn, this could cause it to drop to 12 volts, and this will cause the light to come on. Our technicians can test your alternator and replace it if it’s worn.

Electrical Problems

Random electrical problems could happen at any time. The majority of the time, an electrical problem occurs and never repeats itself. If, however, you experience frequent electrical issues, this suggests a problem in the electrical system. The main cause of this type of problem is a worn alternator that can’t supply the necessary power to your car’s systems.

As we saw above, a worn alternator will produce less power. Should your alternator’s output drop to its minimum, electrical problems can occur. Your windows, for example, can suddenly jam open, or the radio will switch off without warning. These glitches are caused by your computer shifting electricity between the various components that require it.

Burning Smells

Hot metal or burning plastic smells for your engine can be signs of alternator problems. If your alternator is worn, and can’t produce the electricity that is demanded, it works harder to produce power. The alternator will spin faster than it should to try and provide additional electricity. As it overworks, this will cause it to overheat and generate hot metal smells.

Burning plastic smells are usually caused by burning insulation. The wiring in your engine can fray or break as it gets older. Broken wiring can’t conduct electricity. As electricity flows into the broken wiring, the wires will heat up. If the wiring overheats, it can cause the plastic insulation to burn.

These are some of the potential signs of a damaged alternator. If you suspect a problem with your alternator, call us at Gates Honda.
